Updated December 19th, 2001 You know I'm really not a "Computer Person"
I don't even like computers. They're complicated, and touchy. I think that's why I got into Quality Assurance. All day long all I have to do is break the damn things and prove myself right.
I don't own a Cell Phone; I won't buy a Personal Digital Assistant, (PDA); I've got an analog watch; and a real Christmas tree.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not Amish, but I am warey of technology. The most high tech thing I own is my dartgun.
But since I work for the largest provider of High Speed DSL internet on the planet, I thought why not get DSL in my home? That way I can chat with strangers around the world at super fast speeds, while ignoring my family and neighbors.
This has been about as much fun as passing a kidney stone. I've got MCI as my local phone carrier. Verizon owns the lines. So when I checked to see if I qualified for DSL, Verizon said I did. Then I give my name and address so that they can start the process. Since the phone is in Lisa's maiden name, it got rejected by Verizon. We corrected the name and tried again.
It failed again, because MCI has us listed under the wrong name. They left the "O" off of Billo. Still undaunted, we recorrected the name and tried again.
Now we are rejected a third time, apparently because Verizon wants us as a customer. The story goes something like this:
"Our Vendor is reporting that your client is not currently eligible for Line Sharing because they are not using Verizon as their local telephone service carrier. At this time, if our Vendor is not supplying the dial tone service then they will not be able to add DSL to that line."
Finally, I went to Verizon's web page just to see what they would charge me for DSL if I got it through them. When I entered my phone number they told me that I was ineligable.
Its just amazing that I'm not bitter!
